Concert Season 2009-2010 September 24, 2009

The concert schedule has been set for the 2009-2010 school year.  All concerts will begin at 7:00 unless otherwise noted.  All concerts listed will be held in the auditorium at North Middle School.  Concert dress is white shirts and black pants or skirts.  Attendance is extremely important as the group depends on everyone participating.

 6th Grade concerts:

Tuesday, November 17 7:00 p.m    Band and Orchestra
Tuesday, February 23 6:30 p.m.   Band and Orchestra
Wednesday, May 5  7:00 p.m.        BAND
Thursday, May 6  7:00 p.m.           ORCHESTRA

7th & 8th Grade concerts

KIDSPREE ALERT!!! May 12, 2009

Attention all students and former students.  Once again we will be working the Musical Petting Zoo booth at Kidspree.  If you want to work the weekend of July 18-19, please contact me at pbbarngrover@aps.k12.co.us to let me know when you can work.  I need between 10 and 15 workers this weekend.   You will have lots of fun and get a free volunteer t-shirt and a food voucher for the day you work.

Congratulations to all the instrumental music students for a successful year of music making.  We finished strong with a band concert on May 6 and an orchestra concert on May 7.  Please don’t forget to pay your rental fee as soon as possible.  Good luck to all our graduating 8th graders.

The instrumental groups are preparing for the February concerts. The 7th and 8th grade will perform on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. Report time is 6:30. The concert will conclude at 8:00 p.m. We invite everyone to join us for a great concert.

Family Arts Night February 9, 2009

North will be hosting the Family Arts night on Thursday, February 26, 2009.  The evening will begin with an art show and internet safety presentation at 5:30 p.m.  At 6:00 p.m. the 6th grade Music Arts and P.E. classes will demonstrate Tinikling, a filipino dance in the gym.  At 6:30 p.m. the 6th grade band and orchestra will perform in the auditorium.

The 7th & 8th grade bands and orchestras had a great performance on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.  Congratulations to all who participated.  Come watch the video during conferences on the 12th and 13th.

All the groups that performed  on November 15 and November 29 were exellent.  Thank you to all the parents who came to support us.  All the groups are hard at work preparing for the next concerts, February 26 for the 7th and 8th grade and February 28 for the 6th grade. 

A big thank you to all the staff who took time from their schedules to come to the concerts.  We do appreciate the support you give us as well.

The 8th grade band and orchestra created and presented power point presentations on music careers.  They will each receive a CD with their project on it.  The 7th grade band and orchestra will be creating power point presentations after the November 15th concert.

The 6th grade Band and Orchestra classes are busy getting ready for their symphony field trip and for their first concert.  They have been learning about the instruments of the orchestra and where they sit.  Also, they are learning and polishing the music that they will play on Thursday, November 29.  

Why practice? September 10, 2007

Practice is an important part of playing a musical instrument.  It does many things:

1.  Strengthens muscles

2.  Develops correct habits.

3.  Reinforces what was learned in class.

Students should practice weekly, at least 90 minutes per week.  Beginners (6th grade) should practice 120 minutes per week, bu no more than 30 minutes a day.

Parents can support their students by listening to them play at least once a week.
